If you’re not getting free stuff on your birthday, you’re missing a trick.

There are loads of UK restaurants, coffee shops, shops and loyalty schemes that will give you a free treat, voucher or discount just for having a birthday. Very generous, considering all you’ve done is exist.

The only catch is you usually need to sign up in advance, add your birthday and actually open the app or email when it arrives.

Before you start

A few quick tips before you go signing up to everything:

• Sign up at least a couple of weeks before your birthday
