For bloggers, and content marketers, building an email list is probably one of the most widely recommended things to do, as a means to engage your audience further and potentially make more money. You’ve probably heard it said:
The money is in the list
A few ways people make money through an engaged email list are:
- Selling their own products – either physical or digital
- Selling other people’s products – affiliate marketing
- Sending sponsored emails – being paid to advertise a company/brand as the ‘sponsor’ of an email
But it’s hard to know where to get started!
Firstly, you’ve got to be getting traffic to your site to start with which can require spending time working on SEO, both on and off page, building a social media following and working on your marketing strategy. Once you’re actually getting some traffic, you’re more likely to be able to get people signed up to your email list, but even then, it’s not necessarily easy.
It’s certainly not as simple as sticking a sign up form on your website and hoping people pop their name down. And even if they do, you’ve got to provide enough value to make sure they stick around and don’t hit that unsubscribe button!
Here are 7 helpful tips from Campaign Monitor, that outline the best way to go about building an engaged email list and keep it active and healthy.
